Beauty and barber shops provide an excellent opportunity to reach men and women of all ages in a friendly, familiar, and comfortable environment. This initiative utilized the salon as a venue to expand awareness regarding women's and men's health and wellness issues. The initiative provided beauty salon owners with resources and skills to improve the health of the clients they serve by improving one’s sense of well-being. This initiative extended the concept of personal beauty to include overall health and wellness. The initiative focused primarily on breast and cervical cancer prevention and screening. However, the initiative also addressed general men and women’s health concerns, including exercise and nutrition.
